University of Waterloo is the sixth largest university in Ontario, with an enrolment of approximately 22,368 full-time undergraduate and 3,023 full-time graduate students. When part-time students are added, the total number of students is close to 28,000. In addition, in 2007 approximately 9,800 individual students took more than 17,500 UW courses through online and distance education.

Federation of Students is the voice for all University of Waterloo students. The Feds are led by a group of executive members that are elected each year by the student body. It is the role of the Feds to provide services (Food Bank, Campus Response Team, GLOW ("the Queer and Questioning Community Centre"), Women’s Centre, UW Sustainability Project, Off Campus Dons) and activities that serve, empower, and represent the student body. The Graduate Student Association is run by grad students for grad students. Besides representing graduate students’ concerns to UW administration and to government, the GSA provides many services to its members, including health and dental insurance, legal aid, and tax aid. The GSA also organizes a wide range of social activities and operates the Graduate House, a grad student lounge. For more information visit www.gsa.uwaterloo.ca.
The Registrar’s Office provides administrative services to all students in a number of areas. The Registrar’s Office is where you would go to request a transcript, drop off course override forms and much more. To view the online undergraduate calendar, check exam schedules or course times visit the Course, Calendar & Exams website at www.uwaterloo.ca/course.html. The Quest Support Desk is also located in the Registrar’s Office. Quest is the Student Information System where all students enrol in their courses, check their fee statements, view their marks and print off their unofficial transcript.
The Student Awards Office provides students with an opportunity to have adequate financial assistance to complete their studies. This office provides student with access to resources needed to meet their needs as assessed by OSAP (Ontario Student Assistance Program) or a comparable Canadian government student aid program. Student Awards also provides students the opportunity to apply for several different bursaries and scholarships that are offered through different departments at the university.
For information about your financial account with the university, the Student Accounts Office can help. Many of the forms you might need are online, but you can also visit this office in Needles Hall 1110 to make payments and arrange methods of payment.
There are eight separate libraries run by the Library at the University of Waterloo. The two largest are Dana Porter and the Davis Centre. The libraries host workshops throughout the term to help students learn the best ways of researching a paper, how to find materials online, and how to use the TRELLIS system.
